Other "Free Spirit" Buicks

"Free Spirit" was worn by three Buicks. The 1975 Century Custom Series, the 1976 Century and the 1976 Skyhawk.

The 1976 Century is a totally different car compared to the '75. Instead of red/white/blue, the car is silver, orange and black. It's much more "squared" in its look all around, and is powered by a V6 instead of a V8.

Only 1,290 were produced. Like the '75, it has removable roof panels. The '76 was the first V6-powered car ever to pace the Indianapolis 500.

Small note for those that insist on correcting me (over and over and over), yes I am very well aware that the consumer version '76 pace car replica is drastically different compared to the track version. I wrote about that a long time ago.

I sincerely apologize that I do not have a better photo of the Free Spirit Skyhawk. If you have a decent photo of the car in good condition, please send me whatever you have to rich@menga.net.

Here is what the car is supposed to look like (this is non-Free Spirit trim):

Even though the above is a '75 it's nearly identical to the '76. And as you can see, when the car is cleaned up and looking good, she's a really nice looker.

Again, I sincerely apologize that I could not find better pictures of the Free Spirit Skyhawk. If you have any to contribute, please send to rich@menga.net. The '76 "Free Spirit" Skyhawk carried the same color scheme as the Century of that year.

It is very difficult to find any information on this car. What is known is that a total of 15,768 Skyhawks were manufactured in 1976, but how many were actual "Free Spirit" cars is unknown.
