Primer for first time visitors

In 1975 Buick was chosen for the third time to pace the Indianapolis 500 race. For the pace car entry that year they decided to do something different. A lot different. The car chosen was a Century Custom Series outfitted with Hurst Hatches and a completely wild placard graphics package. In very un-Buick like fashion, they rolled out a car that turned heads and dropped jaws wherever it went.

This was not a "doctor's car". No, sir.

A new name was given to a car of this type by Buick; the "Free Spirit". The '75 was the first of the Free Spirit Buicks.

Once you saw this car you never forgot her. Nothing on the road so dramatically displayed American colors so proudly, and very few have since.

Unfortunately, most people never knew this car existed. She had a very short run, you barely saw her on the road due to extremely low production numbers, and she fell off the map almost as fast as she arrived.

The '75 Free Spirit Century is a rare Buick. It is believed that less than 400 were produced, and it's most likely true that less than 100 of them still exist today. This web site serves as as information repository for anyone interested in Free Spirit Buicks.
